iN 2008 we purchased and began using a software program called Handicap System 2008 this software follows the exact formulas established by the USGA and RCGA to calculate indexes.
In 2010 we surveyed the membership regarding many things including the members input on our handicap system to see how it was working. The first question was: "The Ore-Cal Handicap system ensures that all Ore-Cal scores are posted. Which handicap system would you favor?" 1- Ore-Cal Handicap System which ensures all Ore-Cal Scores are posted? 2- GHIN System where members are responsible for posting all of their own scores? We had 96 members respond to our survey. 75% favored the Ore-Cal Handicap System.
We then asked another survey question. "Currently the Ore-Cal Handicap System uses the best 10 our of the last 20 scores posted, or a lessor number if less than 20 scores have been posted. One suggestion is to use the best 5 scores our of the last 10 posted. Do you favor this change?" The response was that 64% were in favor.
Based on the information from the survey and other discussions, the board decided to modify the Ore-Cal Handicap System. We ill use the current last 5 scores posted (after each tournament, the oldest score will drop off and the newest score will be included). We feel this will establish a handicap that is reflective of each members current play.
Our Tournament/Handicap Chairman posts all scores for players in Ore-Cal events. Once a player has played in 2 events he will have an Ore-Cal Handicap. These scores will then be used to determine a player’s course handicap for all Ore-Cal events based on the course that is being played.
We also will be using the USGA Equitable Stroke Control to calculate the adjusted gross score to establish an handicap.
